A historical overview of our guesthouse
Gardiner Place is the earliest of Dublin’s Georgian Streets and provided a link street between Parnell Square and Mountjoy Square which were two of Dublin’s prominent squares.
In 1748 Bartholemew Mosse leased four acres, at the northeast corner of Sackville Mall, now O’Connell Street on which he built the Rotunda Hospital, which was the first charitable maternity hospital of its kind in the British Isles.
Parnell Square East was the first to be developed following the construction of Cavendish Street by Luke Gardiner. The initial plot widths varied in order to establish what was the most suitable for sale. Early houses were over fifty feet in front, similar to the houses on Sackville Mall. Plan form varied with the plot widths.
The Guesthouse had previously been a hotel and the gentleman who ran it before us wrote to the Irish Times trying to establish the history in April 1996. The letter went as follows,

Sir, – I am researching the history of Flemings’ Hotel, which was located at this address. If any of your readers can provide any information on the hotel, or its esteemed proprietor, Sean O’Mahony, known as “Big John” who was elected to Dail Eireann for South Fermanagh in 1918, I would be extremely grateful.
Any material, anecdotes or photos (which will be returned) would be most appreciated. – Yours, etc.,

Unfortunately Mr Lalor passed away in 2021 but we are trying to locate the documents and records he collected on the properties history.

Our Quad Rooms are an excellent choice for families and groups alike and can accommodate up to 4 adults ( All of our quad rooms have a double bed and two single beds ).
